Meet Thomas

I cared for a 96-year-old male with a heart condition and dementia. I was at his home 6 days a week, 7 hours a day, for 11 months. I assisted him with his daily routine as well as assisted his 84-year-old wife with household chores. I was able to learn basic techniques for care from hospice nurses and certified Nurse Aides who came daily. Shortly after that, I began caring for a 94-year-old male as companion, 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. We had lunch together and talked about our life experiences. My next patient, a 74-year-old man with terminal cancer, allowed me to care for him 4 months, 3 to 4 hours, 6 days a week. I assisted him with daily routines and doctors appointments together with his wonderful wife and family. My next patient and most challenging was a 62-year-old male with FTD. I stayed with him 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, for 8 months so that his wife could go to work. People with this condition have limited social skills and are prone to wandering. They require around the clock supervision. When I was not there, his wife would take on that responsibility. We eventually had to part ways due to the progression of his disease. I am grateful for the learning experience associated with caring for someone with dementia.

Thomas took care of my husband for just over a year up until the day he helped me transfer him to assisted living. My husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer's with moderate symptoms approximately two years ago and I struggled on my own to meet my husband's growing needs. Finding Thomas was a blessing as he brought energy and compassion to caring for my husband. Thomas spent his own time doing research on Alzheimer's and shared with me some tips and tricks. He also picked up tips from both the short term physical and occupational therapists that visited my husband and integrated them into daily visits. Thomas was tireless in helping in any ways around the house including washing clothes and sheets and other random tasks while I caught up on sleep. Thomas became like a friend to my husband watching action and slap stick comedies on TV together. It was hard to move my husband to assisted living but Thomas helped and supported during the process to try and minimize transition issues and has followed up with calls to check in on my husband's progress. I highly recommend Thomas for senior home care!
