There truly aren't enough words to express how special Tender Care was for us. Our daughter started going there at 2.5 years old, and continued until she started kindergarten. I've been a teacher for 20 years, and I can say that Tender Care is hands down one of the best education centers I've seen. Tender Care provides a warm, safe and invigorating environment for kids to thrive. It is an eco-friendly center, which was really important to us. The daycare and preschool are run by Judy and Randy Randant and another teacher, Ana. The center has a spacious indoor area full of educational games and toys, and a lovely outdoor area with an art area, shade, bikes, a tire swing, and other fun items. They have amazing gardens in the front and backyard, and they live only a block and a half from a wonderful community garden. I love the philosophy of education that they embrace. Learning is done through exploration, and the children have many choices of fun, interactive activities. There is a big emphasis on social emotional learning, as well as caring for the environment, which I really appreciated. The children are taught to be independent. At mealtime, the kids take part in setting the table for lunch, prepping some of the food, serving themselves, when appropriate and composting. They serve breakfast, lunch and snacks and the food is of great quality, and most times, organic. They even harvest veggies and fruit from the gardens for their meals! There is a dedicated quiet/nap room where each child has their own little space to sleep, read or just rest quietly.

Judy, Randy and Ana all bring unique talents and gifts to the table. Judy is the director and makes sure everything runs smoothly. She is warm and welcoming, and loves connecting the different parents with each other. Randy is so fun and silly, and the kids LOVE him. I wish I had the energy he has! Ana wears many hats, as they all do. She helps cook the delicious food, and will engage in games with small groups, make sure they all wash their hands, all with a calm air about her.

One of the things that I really appreciated (and that blew my mind) is that Judy would carve out time every couple of days to send out photos to each individual family of their child engaged in different activities. She also would include a summary of what they worked on that week. It was such a treat to get those emails and feel like I was a part of my daughter's day at school.

When our daughter started kindergarten, she was beyond prepared, and had already mastered many of the kindergarten standards because of the amazing job they do at Tender Care.

My daughter still talks about her time at Tender Care, and we will always be indebted to them, not only for taking such good care of her, but also for preparing her to be an engaged and aware member of her community.

Our son has been attending Tender Care for almost 2 years now. He absolutely loves it. Judy and Randy beautifully incorporate child led learning into a fun and supportive free play setting. Because of the multi-age setting part of our sons learning comes from his interactions with children of different ages. As one of the older kids now, he really enjoys the opportunity to mentor the smaller children. He loves the time they spend at the community garden, field trips to City Farmers, and opportunities to assist with activities such as worm composting. I am particular about what he eats so it is a huge relief to see the healthy and often organic food that Judy provides them for lunch. Tender Care is a wonderful nurturing place and we feel so thankful to have found it.

It is hard to find the words to truly express the gratitude I have for the level of consistent and high quality care Judy and Randy provided to my son at Tender Care over the past five years. When I went to work each day I knew that my son was in an incredible place receiving exceptional care, lots of love, play time and enriching experiences. Judy and Randy are both highly intelligent and caring people with obvious expertise in child development. Judy & Randy take pride in their work with children and are highly knowledgeable. The informative parent meeting nights with speakers and incredible home cooked dinners for us parents were such a special treat! In addition to being passionate about providing exceptional child care, Judy and Randy are also highly passionate about respecting the environment and modeling for others how to tread lightly on the earth. My son was involved in the composting and gardening each day and learned immensely from these experiences. The Eco-friendly childcare Judy and Randy have created is simply amazing. Eating healthy is important to me and I always knew my son was eating highly nutritious meals at Tender Care. I loved knowing that while I was at work, my son was engaged in enriching experiences all day every day!!!!!!! Too many amazing experiences to list in this quick review. Receiving pictures of my son having fun and playing with his friends while I was at work truly made my day!!!! I currently work for San Diego Unified School District as a speech-language pathologist and have worked in many preschools. Judy and Randy are the best of the best! Words really cannot fully describe how much of a treasure Tender Care is. Behind this amazing Family Child Care is Judy Randant, a woman who has dedicated her life to caring for and teaching our children. She is committed to teaching our children to respect the earth through actively composting, gardening, recycling and being "green" with the kids on a daily basis. She is concerned for our children's health and makes sure to provide nutritious meals and snacks as well as giving unending opportunity for active play and exercise every day. She is devoted to challenging our kids and helping their brains develop by offering enriching games as well as making even the smallest tasks a learning opportunity (did you know sorting and folding laundry is early math development?). Judy is such a remarkable provider!

I don't dare leave out the "man of the house" Randy. The children just adore his goofy spirit and it's great to know they have such a wonderful male role model in their lives every day while at child care. My girls love to ask him to tell stories and they often repeat them at home for me. I also cannot forget to mention the Tender Care assistant Ana. She is kind and is a very hard worker. The kids enjoy having her around at Tender Care.

My daughters are now 9 and 10, but they have been at Tender Care since they were each 3 months old. I contribute a lot of their success at school to be from the rich environment they grew up in at Tender Care. Both of my daughters were well prepared for Kindergarten and have always been top of their classes. They have great social skills and the fundamentals for their classroom learning were already set well before they were even enrolled in Elementary School. I really do not know what we would have done if Tender Care was not available for my daughters as they were growing up.......I am convinced they would not be as well rounded or educated if they had not had such a phenomenal upbringing with the help of Judy and Randy at Tender Care. This place is such a blessing!
