My name is Mary. I consider myself to be a well-rounded individual with a love for sports (tennis, basketball, and badminton), the creative arts (painting, drawing, and writing), and intellectual growth. I am also a lover of animals and hiking.
I had consistently earned top marks all throughout middle school, high school, and college. In high school, I was named the salutatorian. I hold a bachelor's in Biology from the University of California, Berkeley, as well as research experience in the field of paleobotany. Throughout my college career, I gained extensive experience with working with children. I have tutored in Oakland and was even a volunteer at the post-natal department at the Alta Bates Medical Center. After graduating, I pursued tutoring jobs, which had extended my experience to 5th graders and middle school students, during my gap year. My experience has enabled me to easily discover the weaknesses of my students so that they may improve upon it. A perfectionist at heart, I strive to encourage children to try their best and to persevere, because it is at this young age where children learn to overcome obstacles as opposed to surrendering.
My recent experience is summarized as thus:
- September 2012 to May 2014: OASES Tutor at Oakland for 2nd to 3rd graders
- August 2014 to December 2014: San Quentin Prisoner Tutor for prisoners striving to earn their GED
- February 2015 to June 2015: Heart for Education Homework Tutor for 3rd to 5th graders
- May 2015 to Present: Private English Tutor for 7th to 8th graders.
