Working with special need children is a very fragile job. As for me, my experience was getting him up, sponge bath, dressing him, transferring him to his wheelchair, singing songs, testing his vision, hearing, and movement, cooking, cleaning, then I would read, and have him work out his speech etc. He was brain damaged, and half paralyze.
