I am the second oldest of 6 children, so care giving is something that comes naturally to me. When I was 2 years old my mother had the chicken pox while she was pregnant with my brother. When he was born he was unable to eat without a feeding tube, had to wear hearing aids and had a lot of trouble speaking. He did not actually talk until he was almost 3. I helped my parents take care of him as much as I could and will take care of him when my parents can no longer. I was also recently able to work with a family with an amazing 5-year-old with Down syndrome for 10 months before they moved to Colorado. I am currently attending school part-time so I can become a nurse and work with children with special needs.
