Although I do not have experience caring for a special needs child on my own, I do have a lot of experience being around children with special needs. During my undergraduate work at the University of Vermont, I frequently helped my girlfriend babysit for a family with 3 young children, including a girl with Autism Spectrum Disorder. I loved working with her, and I learned a lot from the experience. I have also helped take care of a nonverbal boy with Autism. I have experience with caring for typically developing children, including my three godchildren. I am passionate about working with children with special needs because they are fun, engaging and I am always learning from them, even during the challenging times. I also know how hard it can be on a family to find someone they trust enough to take care of their child, especially if the child has special needs. I want to provide that comfort and support for whoever I work for.
