I can not emphasize enough how much hands on activities are so essential in any child's development at any age. I enjoy taking daily activities and turning then into learning experiences. I truly enjoy reading and crafting. I have a son who has Autism. He is 8 years old and is making great leaps and bounds. He was diagnosed at the age of 22 months old. I am a strong believer in applied behavioral analysis and positive reinforcement. I have worked inside the special day classrooms with different aged students and abilities. I have been extremely active and observant in all of my son's therapies, in which I have learned a lot from. I apply everything I learn throughout my son's day and we have seen amazing progress. My son did not speak until he was 5 years old and is now speaking in full sentences and is at the top of his class in academics. I left my full time job as a medical assistant in 2008 when he was diagnosed and have devoted my life to him since. Now that he is a lot more independent and able to be at school without any problems, I am looking for a part time job while he is at school. Since 2012 I have also been caring for a 4-year-old boy who has sensory processing disorder and a hearing deficit. Since he has been under my care he has begun to speak and write. I treat and care for every child as if he or she was my own. I am very enthusiastic and positive in everything that I do. Before my son was diagnosed, I was attending school and finishing my RN (registered nurse) prerequisites. Since I began working with my son and various classrooms, a fire and passion within me has started to return to school to achieve my BCBA.
