I am very passionate about children. I love being around them and taking care of them. I am very good with children of any age and need. I have a cousin with Down syndrome so I have experience taking care of children with special needs having grown up with her for a large portion of my life. I am a Music Therapy Major at Shenandoah Conservatory currently so I can bring my music therapy skills with me to use with children. I was a Camp Counselor and Special Needs Camper Aid this past summer. I babysat 2 children both under the age of 3 by myself every Sunday morning for a year. I have also babysat a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder for 8 hrs a day for a week during spring break.

Nora is my niece. She has been an invaluable support to our family for several years as a very committed companion/caretaker for our daughter who is a child living with Down Syndrome-now 14 years old. In her current college years of study and training for a career in Special Education/Music Therapy, Nora regularly brings many innovated teaching-therapy interventions and dynamic game-focused play techniques to our family gatherings, drawing our daughter out and connecting her more readily and confidently to her extended family members. She has literally built social and emotional bridges for us to be more fluidly and joyfully connected to our daughter! I want to be certain to underscore how Nora is so beautifully matched for her particular career choice in special education - therapy outreach. Her natural giftedness and interest for helping others is deeply seasoned with a strong passion for effectively reaching into the challenges that come with working with people with disabilities. A truly lovely young woman in every respect, she works creatively to find ways to support the overall growth and care of her clients, always delivering service with a much needed, (and appreciated), quiet confidence to her work settings. She is extremely well organized, wonderfully creative, and diligent in her preparations for her work and deeply committed to learning all she can about her trade as a young developing professional. Do get to know her. She has so much to offer in professional skills as well as personal talent and dedication for the people she is called to serve in this special field of compassionate care and support. Most sincerely, Laura
