As a preschool teacher of 8 years I have the opportunity to care for and teach several children with special needs in my classroom. This allowed me to work with them on a daily basis where I was able to care for there individual needs and make them feel comfortable in a small group setting. During this time I worked directly with many Case Workers when they observed and documented the children in their classroom setting as part of the IEP process. I received encouraging support from all Case Workers that have participated. I continuously strive to improve myself by participating in various George Mason University Child Development Training and Loudoun County workshops related to education and special needs which has helped me in understanding and supporting the children I teach and care for. I can provide a structured environment where children with special needs can thrive. A sample of special needs courses completed: Speech and Language Development Integrating a Special Need Child into the Classroom Talking with Parents - suspect child has a disability Working with Children who have Challenging Behaviors During my career as a teacher I have worked on a daily basis with children with these challenges: ADHD ADD Autism Cancer - Brain Cerebellar Ataxia Down Syndrome Leukemia Speech Disorder As a mother of 3 teenagers, one of which has the challenge of ADD and memory retention, I understand the emotional toll and challenges to advocate for a special needs child as a parent. As a teacher I am just as passionate about the development and growth of my students. I also have the following Health and Safety training certifications: CPR and AED Certification exp 3/18/15 Basic First Aid Certification exp 3/18/15 Daily Health Observation (DOH) Training Pre-Medication Administration Training Program (PMAT) TB Tested exp 3/27/15 I am also fluent in Spanish.
