I have 3 years of full-time work experience with children with special needs and 4 additional years part-time. Over the last year, I worked at a special needs school with multiple impaired students, ages 13-21. Here I taught students independent living and leisure skills while supporting appropriate behavior at all times. I have completed, and I am currently in Positive Behavior Support and CPR/ first aid training. I am fluent in sign language with experience working with deaf/blind clients. I have a bachelors degree in Music Education from Texas Tech University and a masters degree in Ethnomusicology from Florida State University. While at FSU, I worked with children who have autism in a musical improvisation group. While working on my undergraduate degree, I worked at an ABA center with young autistic clients, a nursing home where I was a CNA, and taught music classes to diverse populations of learners. I volunteered full-time for 3 years at an adaptive summer camp for children with special needs that was specialized for medically-fragile and cognitively impaired campers. My particular passion is working with people who have difficulties communicating. I believe that communication gives us all access to relationships with those around us, as well as the power of choice. My role is listening intently, engaging intentionally, and creating a safe and productive place for my clients and students to express themselves.
