I am a third year student at Grand View University and am studying Psychology with an emphasis in children with disabilities. Throughout my life, I have been an advocate for families and individuals with disabilities. I have family members who have disabilities and it has given me a connection to those that have disabilities. I have also been a teacher's student assistant that worked with peers with a variety of disabilities throughout my elementary-high school years. In spring 2012, I spent a lot of time with a family that has three children with disabilities, ages 16, 12, and 9. Their disabilities included ODD, cerebral palsy, autism, and physical disabilities, among other exceptionalities. I completely fell in love with these children and established a wonderful connection with the children and family.
