Working with those who have special needs has been a blessing in my life. I have had four years of experience with children of all ages, as well as a senior citizen. My first time working with children that have special needs was a boy with Asperger's syndrome. I have never felt so honored to have learned so much about this boys skills and interests. I also worked with a middle school age girl which was legally blind combined with cognitive disorders. Her mother was highly grateful to have me in her life and continued to request me as her para-eduactor, however she was no longer able to have one in high school. I moved on to working with two boys which had a variety of disorders such as behavior, ADHD, Autism Spectrum and OCD. They completely changed toward the end of the year and changed me as well. The summers I worked with preschool age children. I had a goal for each of the children I worked with, and that is to be their encouragement for a better world. I never felt as fulfilled in my life until I fulfilled theirs. Seeing these students/children/adults have their life changed because I was able to help them is more rewarding than anything money can buy.
