I first started working with children who have special needs when I was 16 and my uncle asked me to babysit his 6-year-old son who has autism. I enjoyed it so much that when I graduated from high school I applied for a job with ABCUSD as a Para-educator. In my first two years there I was a "bus-aide" for two separate boys who had different diagnosis. I was also a "one-on-one aide" for a female student at a elementary school in-between my transportation shifts. My job duties included; supervising behavior, making sure appropriate social behavior was being used, made sure lunch was eaten, tutoring, and interacting with my students. I have since been moved to a SDC (Special Day Class)with 12 boys between the ages of 5-10 years of age. My duties include teaching four separate groups of Spelling and Math, a long with whole class lessons in Science, History, Music, and P. E. I also have a part-time caregiving job with a family who has 3 children who have special needs. I absolutely love working with children and am going to school for a career in Speech Pathology.
