I am currently working as a paraprofessional at a local school. I have experience working with Autism and Aspberger's syndrome. I am in school on my way to obtaining a bachelors in Social Work. I love working with children on the Autism Spectrum. Being honest, I am best when it comes to older kids ( 6th grade +). I also tend to be more strict when it comes to meeting goals, respecting others, and expectations I know that particular individual can accomplish. I would never set someone up for failure, but if I know you are capable to showing up to class on time, and prepared then that's what I expect out of you. I am also big on holding one accountable for their actions. If you use a word you aren't suppose to (and you are aware of it) then there is a consequence for your action (maybe 30 minutes of no TV, or serving a time out. Whatever is appropriate to the child and the situation.) I know I must sound like a mean person, but I can honestly say that I have had great success with the kids I have worked with in school as far as meeting adaptive behavioral goals and such. Don't take me the wrong way, I love having fun too but I take all opportunities I can when I see room for growth.
