I have found a very strong passion for kids with disabilities and have found that there is no disability or behavior that I can not work with. This passion has come from a lot of years talking to people with disabilities as well as having 2 adopted daughters with disabilities. Our oldest has fetal alcohol effects and our youngest has Down Syndrome and has had major heart surgery at 6 months old. We also have a grandson who has Autism. I've got approximately 10 1/2 years working in the school system as well as the private sector. I've got a lot of varying experiences from the higher functioning to the very low, which requires total care. I have learned to care for kids with severe behaviors both in a self-abusing manor as well as striking out to others. As one of the senior therapist, I am very willing to help other therapist as well as parents. I have had experiences with feeding tubes, toilet training, some sign language, as well as the teaching of daily skills the child will need in their adult life. As a parent of a child with Down Syndrome, I have had experience with the writing of IEPs.
