I have experience in hospital and home care nursing. I enjoy home care because it is on a more personal level with the clients. I have had the pleasure to work with all age groups. Most of my clients were disabled to some extent. I cared for an adult with a brain injury due to an auto accident, he was in a wheelchair, but I could help him walk with a brace and physical therapy. I also assisted with bathing and dressing, meals and laundry, some light housekeeping, transportation when needed, and medications as ordered. I also worked for a long time with an adult male with adult onset muscular dystrophy. He was also in a wheelchair and had a tracheostomy and ventilator I needed to care for. Besides all of the above, teaching the client and family about care is very important; I enjoyed working home care with children and their families. I get along with everyone, especially children. I have worked with quite a few diagnoses in babies and children, muscular dystrophy, cystic fibrosis, and AIDS. My job was to make these children comfortable, keep them clean, talk and laugh with them and their parents, distribute medications as ordered, maintain G-tube, feeding tube, O2, etc. Playing with these children at their level is very important. I have also worked with seniors, clients with cancer, congestive heart failure, Alzheimer's. Nutrition is very important at this stage. My job was to make good meals, housekeeping, bathing, dressing, companionship. I have been a nurse for a long time and that is what makes me happy, helping other people. I took care of both of my parents through very long illnesses so I do know what people need during that time through experience. I love to read, cook, exercise and travel with my husband.
