My experience working with special needs children began when my own son was diagnosed with Autism when he was 22 months old. Since that time, I have attended seminars and compiled lots of documentation about the things that were recommended. I have read several books about Autism, and have successfully implemented the Gluten and Casein Free diet - which did help a lot. I taught myself basic sign language (which we still use) because my son was non-verbal until he was well over 3 years old. I have taken college classes in Child Development, but most of my knowledge has been learned hands-on working with the many Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Play Coaches, etc. that I have met along the way. I have been networking in the Autism Community for several years. Today, I can say that my son is functioning in a main-steamed Second Grade school environment but every day is different and his world is still too big for him at times. So we continue to find ways to reduce anxiety, improve social skills and use our words. Through consistent positive reinforcement, the goal is to stay positive and be proud of yourself everyday. All of which work to help my son manage his symptoms. I can tell you that "I get it" - I honestly do. I understand the need for simple structure and the need for knowing how to speak children at their level - which simply means (for me anyway) that bending down before talking makes a big difference in how our kids interpret what is being said. I do a lot of explaining and try to limit unannounced surprises in my home and I would certainly need to know what types of remedies that you are implementing in your home. I also have current experience working with an amazing young child that has Downs Syndrome. What I have found is that even though DS is different from ASD, there are many methods of teaching that work well for both groups. Lastly, I would like you to know that I am reliable, trustworthy and honest. I was raised with those ethics by my parents and I know of no other way to be. I m sure there is more information that I can share that may help you learn more about me and put you in a better place to make a decision.

Judy has been working as a childcare provider for our two special needs children (ages 2 and 4) for a year and a half. Our oldest son has autism and our younger son has a global developmental delay. Judy quickly learned our household routine and effectively enforced the guidelines we had outlined. Judy is very good at engaging young children and excels at reinforcing positive behavior. Judy is an extremely caring and compassionate person. She is trustworthy and takes initiative to develop activities that aid in the development of my boys. Baby sign language and PECS (picture exchange communication system) were once a large part of the communication system in our home. Judy understands these systems and quickly added more signs and pictures to increase the communicative skills of our youngest son. I strongly recommend Judy for any childcare position, especially one involving special needs children. Please do not hesitate to contact me for additional information.
