Being raised by a mom who is a preschool teacher, I was immersed in the childcare field from an early age. Indeed, when I first started working at the age of 14, I helped my mom out in her preschool classroom, and began to pick up babysitting jobs around the neighborhood. As I got older, I was able to take the lead teacher role and create an engaging classroom experience for 2 and 3-year-olds. When I entered into my first year of college, I began pursuing my psychology degree with the intention of working with children who have emotional, social, behavioral, and developmental challenges. Therefore, I took several internships involving these populations. My first internship was at a summer camp for children with emotional, behavioral, and social challenges. At this camp, I learned many skills for behavior management that form my philosophy today. I was able to use these skills the next summer when I worked in a psychiatric residential setting with older teenage girls who had mental health diagnoses. Taking a slightly different path, I now work with students who have mild-severe developmental and physical disabilities. My approach is to be as engaging and positive as possible!
