I have 4 years of teaching and tutoring experience in a special education classroom and one on one. In these environments, I have worked with students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles. As my first full-time classroom experience, I took up the challenge of teaching students with learning, social, and emotional disabilities. It proved to be a difficult, challenging, but life changing opportunity. I taught 5 to 8 middle school or high school students who were each at different math levels and in different subjects. This entailed working one on one with each student and evaluating what accommodations to apply for each one. This was the most satisfying part of my job and that in which I excelled. Following the progress and development of each student after differentiating instruction for him/her was a very gratifying experience. I endeavored to change math from a subject that students hate to one that is challenging and pertains to the real world. With continued patience and encouragement, my students turned their math scores and grades around quickly. When once these students had developed math anxiety and failed, now they experienced success.
