I have experience teaching and supervising children with ASD, Cerebral Palsy, and at-risk youth during day-time activities (i. e., surfing, horse riding, hiking, swimming, exploring, crafts, games, play, etc.) and overnight camps. The most fulfilling experience of my life has been serving individuals with ASD and their families. This is why I am minoring in Special Education (they didn't have it as an option to major in, so I guess I'll just have to learn more when I eventually attend graduate school for teaching credentials and a masters in special ed!). I've devoted my life to learning and understanding as much as I can about these various conditions that sometimes present adverse symptoms, but also reveal a side of humanity that needs to be cherished and celebrated. I approach every individual with respect appropriate for their maturity level (no baby-talking your 12-year-old son). I learn about all the unique interests of every child I am assigned to interact with, and I sneakily educate through fun and play based on these interests. I'm excited to eventually be a special education teacher (and eventually, policy reformer), but first, I'm excited to serve you and your family.
