I personally have type 1 diabetes, so I have had many opportunities to care for children with type 1 diabetes also. I nannied for a 3-year-old with newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes for 2 years. I find that caring for a child with the same struggles you face creates a strong bond and also gives the parents peace of mind knowing that you know how to care for their exact needs.

Ashley worked with our family for about two years. When she started, our daughter had just turned 3 and our son was almost 5. Our daughter is special needs as she is a type 1 diabetic and so needs someone who not only understands how to care for her, but also pays attention to her with the level of detail required to prevent issues. Ashley did both at a level that gave my husband and I the peace of mind we needed. Ashley was ALWAYS respectful, on-time, flexible, gave sufficient notice when she needed time off, and most importantly, loving and kind to our kids (without letting them get away with things they shouldn't). She drove the kids to/from school and activities, always ensuring they had the appropriate clothing, gear, snacks, etc., and helped to keep the house from being the disaster it otherwise would have been with small kids! Our kids still miss Ashley (we all do!). We would hire her without a second thought if we had to do it all over again.
