I have been working with students with special needs for over 10 years. I have been a special education teacher for the last 7 years and I am presently a SDC Teacher for a 3rd - 5th grade class. I have also previously taught a K/1st grade class and a 2nd/3rd grade class as well. I have taught a racially and culturally diverse student population including students who are English language learners. I have taught students with a wide range of special needs including children with Autism, ADD/ADHD, intellectual disability, specific learning disability, hearing impairment, nonverbal students, other health impairment (seizures, health needs, etc.), speech and language impairment, and students with behavioral needs. Additionally, I have had extensive experience with applied behavior analysis and utilizing a positive behavior system. While in college, I worked as a special education para-educator as well as doing play therapy for a child with Autism. Special needs children are near and dear to my heart. My youngest brother is diagnosed with Pervasive Development Delay and he is the reason why I chose a career in working with children who have special needs.
