I have experience working as a PCA through Cerebral Palsy of MA with a severely handicapped boy. He had cerebral palsy and was deaf/blind, wheelchair bound, and severely epileptic. He also had a GJ tube and needed to be specially transported, bathed, and toileted. I worked with him from the time he was four in September 2008 until his death at the age of six in June 2010. In December of 2010, I began to work as a PASS worker through Northeast behavioral Associates with a 6-year-old boy with muscular dystrophy and a 5-year-old girl with epilepsy, who is very hyperactive. I no longer work with the boy, but continue to work with the girl per diem. I also have experience babysitting for children with Asperger's and Autism. I can use basic ASL and speak a little Spanish. These different cases have given me more experience in my field of choice; special- need pediatrics. I am a third year nursing student at Umass Boston. My hope is that someday I will be able to become a pediatric nurse. Many people ask me, "How can you care for suffering children? Isn't that just heart-wrenching?" I tell them that I have a heart for nothing else. I know that working with pediatrics is not always sunshine and roses, I have seen the pain and suffering different handicaps bring to both the child and the parents, but it makes the whole trip worth while when the child is happy and laughing and they forget about their pain for just a moment. I know that caring for a sick child is hard, but I want to make the job easier for you, the parent. I want to be able to love and care for your child. My wish, my goal in life, is to put one smile, once a day, on one child's face. My dream job is to someday work at Boston Children's Hospital, but for now I am looking for a summer job to help me get through college.
