Special Needs Caregiver In The Tristate Area
Five years ago, when I first became a caregiver and assistant to those with special needs, I was more nervous and uneasy than you could ever imagine! In my mind I was stuck on "not knowing how to act around people with special needs." But, then I finally realized I was missing the most important word in that phrase - people. People are people and each person has the same basic needs - care, love, comfort, shelter, food, and joy. So I made it my goal to meet those needs and while reaching that goal I fell in love. Never have I ever had such a rewarding job in all my life.
Since that nervous beginning five years ago, I have been abundantly blessed with many years of caring for my dear friends with physical and mental difficulties. The love in my heart has grown so much through my experience as a caregiver. I realize now the value of the trust and the relationship I have with those I care for, and I'm grateful.
In my years of experience I have had many responsibilities and worked with many ranges of needs. I have assisted my special needs friends with showers, feeding, catheters, dressing, lifting, and behavioral difficulties.
