Seeking care for my mother in her 70s. Services needed: companionship, bathing / dressing, medication prompting, help staying physically active. Looking for someone with 3+ years of experience caring for seniors. Specialized care needs: CPR/first aid training, support for memory care. Female caregiver preferred. A little more about my mother: she can be energetic, anxious, outgoing. My mother is friendly and pleasant unless she is upset or anxious. She has dementia, and needs cues to get through basic tasks. She is ambulatory and continent. She still recognizes family, but her memory is worsening, and lately she is more confused and becomes frustrated and angry more easily. She responds well to loving, affectionate people. I'm looking for someone who is patient. Our ideal caregiver would be patient, friendly, and converse easily, but not excessively. She would give cues in an encouraging way, and spend time doing simple activities with mom. Mom responds well to kind, friendly people who take an interest in her. Mom is currently cared for at home by her 83-year-old husband; I live nearby and help out almost every day. My dad and I are in need of respite care 2 or 3 days a week.
My mom needs someone who can take her for a walk in her neighborhood, read to her, look at old photos or watch TV with her.
She likes to go out to eat (dad takes her out to eat every day); also likes to ride to the beach, or go shopping.
She needs someone who is able assist her with taking mediations, help her shower and dress for the day, or in pajamas for the evening.
She usually eats a sandwich at night, so if the caregiver could make that, it would be helpful.
