Family of five wins $12,445 to pay for babysitters and preschool.

Waltham, MA-November 30, 2009- (, the premier source of trustworthy care options for families, has randomly selected member Karie Fristoe, stay-at-home mother of three, as the winner of the Year of Care Giveaway. The $12,445 grand prize will help fund the Fristoe family's child care budget for one year.

With their $12,445 winnings, the Fristoe family receives the annual amount that American families spend on child care, according to the State of Care Index. Motivated by families struggling through rough economic times,, in cooperation with the National Association of Child Care Resource & Referral Agencies (NACCRRA), released the State of Care Index to examine the annual cost of child care and how caregiving responsibilities affect families in the United States.

At the news that she was the Year of Care Giveaway winner, Karie Fristoe said that she "jumped up and down" in her Murrieta, California home. She and her husband, Matthew Fristoe, plan to use the money to expand their babysitting budget and enroll their oldest daughter, Madilyn, into preschool three times a week.

Like many parents, the Fristoes have felt pressured by the cost of providing child care and have used relatives to help with babysitting, but felt they couldn't expect family members to help out with all their child care needs.

Additionally, the Fristoe children-4-year-old Madilyn, 2-year-old Tegan, and 5-month-old Kambria-have widely varying needs when it comes to care, which costs approximately $15.00 in babysitting fees per hour for all three children. As a result, the Fristoes have had to scale back in some areas and adjust their budget to allocate for babysitting expenditures.

" provided the Year of Care Giveaway to recognize the high cost of child care expenses-a burden that so many families struggle to afford," said Sheila Lirio Marcelo, Founder and CEO of "We're happy to help families find the high-quality, affordable child care they need and to raise awareness of how difficult that search can be."

These tough care decisions can often surprise first-time parents when heading back to work after taking time off for the birth of a child. Fristoe said she went back to work after her first child was born, but almost all of her paycheck went to child care. So she decided to stay home, but now she has to juggle the needs of a 4-month-old and her older kids who want to get out and play.

"I saw an ad for I went to the site and so desperately needed to find somebody. I found several different girls and requested their background checks-that was a huge help to me."

Through, Karie was able to find a sitter who "has even more experience with babies than I do. It's so refreshing. As a mom, child care is a seven-days-a-week job. It's hard to find someone who will love your babies like you would."

Ultimately, by finding the right caregiver for her family, Fristoe was able to spend more one-on-one time with her children. Karie said, "It was like I fell in love with my children all over again."

Recognizing the economic and child care challenges faced by families like the Fristoes, invited parents to enter into the Year of Care Giveaway from September 14 through October 9.
