CARE.COM JOINS MILITARY SPOUSE EMPLOYMENT PARTNERSHIP
Care.com Mom ForceTM Aides Spouses in Finding Portable Jobs
WALTHAM, MA (October 10th, 2011) - As part of its ongoing commitment to support military families, Care.com became one of 24 new corporations to partner with the Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP), a new Department of Defense program that connects employers and military spouses seeking new career opportunities. Donna Levin, Co-Founder of Care.com, joined Robert L. Gordon III, deputy assistant secretary of Defense for Military Community and Family Policy, the Honorable Thomas R. Lamont, assistant secretary of the Army, Manpower and Reserve affairs, and Anthony J. Stamilio, deputy assistant secretary of the Army, Manpower and Reserve Affairs and military spouses at a ceremony held during the opening hours of the 2011 Association of the United States Army Annual Meeting and Exposition in Washington, D.C.
The Military Spouse Employment Partnership addresses one of the key objectives of the "Joining Forces" campaign, a national effort spearheaded by First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden. "We are leveling the playing field for our spouses, since our spouses have a 26-percent unemployment rate and a 25-percent wage gap," Gordon said. "As we all know, with deployment and moves overseas, often times our spouses have difficulty finding and keeping jobs and careers. This levels the playing field by matching companies to the skill sets of our spouses."
"This partnership is another affirmation of our commitment to the unique needs of military families," Ms. Levin said. "Military spouses make incredible sacrifices every day, including career choices and decisions around job opportunities. I'm proud that Care.com has been able to provide access to portable, flexible caregiving jobs to countless military spouses as well as opportunities with our online Care.com Mom ForceTM team."
The Care.com Mom ForceTM is designed to be flexible, virtual and mobile; ideal for military spouses seeking to balance employment with the unique challenges of military life. In this role, military spouses will join a team of work-at-home moms who review every caregiver profile and member job post to facilitate a more secure an online environment. Military spouses can apply to become a member of the Mom ForceTM by e-mailing Care.com's careers account.
Cheryll Anne Hannaway, a navy spouse and member of Mom ForceTM said, "As someone who has been part of a military family my whole life - as a daughter and now as a spouse - I feel blessed to part of a company that supports the troops and their families."
