About who needs care: Brother has cerebral palsy; however, is coming our of rehab for back surgery and will need assistance each day for a while. As he gets stronger, he will need less assistance each day. My son will be staying with him at night so I may not need total assistance, but know when he first comes home, he will need assistance with cooking, getting dressed, cleaning, getting to the bathroom. As he gets stronger, I will just need someone there for meals and some transportation.
About the care needs: My brother likes to watch TV (religious, westerns, etc). He likes to go for rides around town. The caregiver would need an easy-going personality, be strong enough to help lift is he needs it (weight - 214 lb) and be encouraging to get my brother to do his PT and try to do things for himself. Would like someone who is attentive to his needs but tries to encourage him to be more self-reliant. Since he is in his 70s, he might adjust better to someone who isn't too young.
Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
