Honestly, I do not have the formal training to take care of senior people but I do believe I have the patience and compassion that it takes to care for them and understand their behavior. It may be worth it to say that I have taken care of my 87-year-old mother-in-law for almost a year before she succumbed to rectal cancer. Back in the Philippines, I did volunteer work to spend time with senior citizens who are in a home for the aged. I have been exposed to the different characteristics each and every senior resident had. Some were funny and comical, while others were grouchy and chose to clam up. For some reason, I noticed that these people who are in their twilight years have an unexplained liking for me. And I love that. Maybe, this is also my way of feeling close to my Mom who is in her late 70's now but she is back in the Philippines and even if I wanted to take care of her, our distance keeps me from doing so. I would love to take care of someone like my Mom.
