The new school year is here, and it's a great time to help students get the extra support they may need so they don't fall behind. I offer students individualized academic help, whether they are working below grade level, have learning disabilities such as dyslexia, or are advanced. Just two days a week for one-hour sessions can make a real difference, and keep students motivated to succeed. I work with students from Grade 2-high school in the areas of reading, writing, phonics, spelling, grammar, vocabulary, and exec. functioning skills (organization, following directions, study skills). My approach involves motivating students based on their interests, making learning fun, varying activities, and using humor. And I enjoy challenging more advanced students. I have worked as a private tutor since 2018. My previous experience includes being a certified K-12 reading specialist, a public and private school teacher, and a professional editor. (I do not provide tutoring in math.)

I have two daughters, 11 & 9 yo, both working with Bob. My older daughter started with Bob 15 months ago, and younger about eight months ago. They are very different personalities & writing/reading levels. Bob is carefully planning work for the girls & we talked over the phone about the girls' interests & both of our expectations. Bob's strengths are listening to our girls patiently & catching their minds to guide them to write in a fun atmosphere. When my older daughter started working with Bob, she was already strong with reading & moderate level of writing, however, we wanted Bob to work on technical parts of writing to include research, composing, and editing. She has now progressed from a letter to a TV personality to research projects, to discussing classic literature pieces. Our younger one, didn't like writing & was weak at reading. Now her reading skill has accelerated to now being on the 3rd Harry Potter book & enjoys writing when she writes about topics she enjoys everyday.
