To Whom It May Concern: Hello, my name is Raahi and I have my Masters in Biology. I have three years experience in tutoring a high school student with autism. When I started tutoring him he was in 9th grade and is now a senior in high school. I tutor him in math (Algebra, Geometry, Trig), Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics), English, and Spanish. He has great difficulty in understanding the language and concepts. To better help him, I would try to teach him using visual aids. For example, to teach osmosis I used eggplant, salt, and water. To teach density I used different liquids such as oil, water, honey, etc. To teach probability, I used marbles of different colors. I did this for anything he had trouble grasping. To help him with his social skills, I would talk to him and ask him questions about his day and what he did. At the end of each tutoring session, I typed up a write-up of his behavior on that day and how much he grasped the material I went over with him. He has trouble expressing how he feels and paying attention; however, he has showed much improvement in these three years. At times he has thrown tantrums, has hit himself, constantly touches others, etc. but his behavior has been improving. This experience has been very rewarding for me because I have seen a young man improve socially and in school and it makes me very happy knowing that I had something to do with that. I would love to pursue a career in helping students and would love an opportunity to be considered for any open position. Thank you very much!
