My experience with special needs children includes that of my own child who has Sensory Processing Disorder. The research into training her to cope was a lengthy labor of love. She is now 22 and on her own. She still has to manage the disorder but has learned that she is completely capable of doing so. I also provided Respite Care for a child with Cerebral Palsy. I learned quickly what was needed and through playing with the child learned ways to make her laugh and enjoy her exercises and learning time. Additionally, I have worked with very small newborn twins. I enjoyed the challenge the additional attention to details these tiny babies required. I also had some exposure to children with several learning disorders, asthma, physiological issues while teaching and during my time working with the Girl Scouts as a troop leader and then as Camp Director. I learn quickly and am not afraid of the challenges of working with a child with special needs. Most of this experience has been as a volunteer. Paid experience probably is less than a full year as my time as Respite Care turned into a volunteer position when family could no longer pay, I continued out of love for the family and the child.

It was a pleasure and a gift to have Paige in our lives for close to 2 years. I had tried a few other nannies and Paige was the only one I felt was really competent and experienced. She can handle single and multiple children. By handle I mean deal with their physical care giving.. But also their intellectual development.. All the while having fun, .. And fun that comes with great organization... And common sense discipline. She is great!
