For the past year I have been the primary care provider for a sweet little 2-year-old with autism. I started working with her before she was diagnosed. Even then, I was constantly searching for information and knowledge to help her. I have attended every speech and occupational therapy appointment for months now, and I do 4-6 hours of structured play/therapy at home, mostly using ABA techniques, as well as Discreet Trial Training. I'm teaching self care skills, sign language, appropriate play, social interaction, sensory integration, and encouraging her development in every way. In my free time, I research autism and attend lectures about autism, ABA therapy, and managing challenging behaviors at the Kennedy Center. I am comfortable working with special needs children who also have medical complications. Previous to working in the child care field, I was a home health care aide for end of life services. I am CPR certified and comfortable with epilepsy, feeding tubes, EPI pens, sensory processing disorder, aggressive behavior, ADD and ADHD. I am open to working with any sort of special needs child, but I must admit that I have a particular interest with children on the spectrum.
