The family I grew up in put an emphasis on the importance of our elders. The most important elders in my life, my parents, have since passed. My father passed of ALS, and my mother of pancreatic cancer. I don't want to elaborate so much on what it took to care for them each on the medical/clinical side, but rather on the personal side. I truly find it an honor to come eye-to-eye with seniors. I love listening to them. I love learning from them.
I've been a housewife and stay-at-home Mom for 16 years now, and with more time coming available with our daughter gaining independence, I'm craving the heart and wisdom of elders again. Along with my parents, I also walked my aunt through beating lung cancer. So yes, I do have much experience on the care-taking side. But just as important, I know from experience that seniors love to have an ear to talk to. Let me be that listening ear for your loved one(s). Everything else involved has become second-nature to me.
