I have never worked with seniors, but I have worked with teenagers in a special education classroom. There, I fed the teens that could not feed themselves, changed those who could not use the restroom on their own, kept the teens on daily learning tasks, transported certain students to and from their wheelchairs, and promoted positive reinforcement for every child. I enjoy talking to the elderly and learning about their lives. I believe you can learn something from everyone and I have a compassionate heart. I just love to help others. My grandfather passed away from Alzheimer's when I was a teenager and I've seen what the disease can do to a family. It is a terrible disease and I have a soft heart for those that suffer from Alzheimer's because I was there to watch my grandfather battle it firsthand. That life experience has prompted me to provide the elderly with the best care I can possibly give them in order to lead as good a life as they can. If I were going through an illness later in life, I would want to be treated as compassionate and respectful as possible. If an emergency occurs, I would need to know a great deal about the patient. For example, what kind of foods are they allergic to, is there a chance for seizures, etc. I would have to thoroughly get to know the patient in order to treat and prevent any emergencies. I would first assess the situation and if I am not able to handle it on my own, an ambulance will be called. I feel I would be a great candidate for caring for the elderly because I am not afraid to do whatever it takes to help give them the best care possible. I would treat the patients exactly how I would like to be treated.
