I grew up in a large family - I am 10 of 14 - and have cared for people my entire life. My parents have shared their home with people with dual diagnoses (Intellectual developmental disability and mental health issues). By the age of 15 I was a full time babysitter/nanny for my neighbor's children. I cared for children ranging from 6 months old -12 years old. After graduating college I spent time doing missionary work working with teenagers and young adults down in Jacksonville FL. After 6 months I returned to NH where I began working with a woman with ALS. After one year I became the manager of the team of eight women (all employed by this woman). We provided around the clock care for her and safely enabled her to remain at home in her own ICU. I was the primary caregiver responsible for all doctors appts, physical therapy appts, and any visiting nurse appts. My work came to an end (3/1/19) when the decision was made to move her into a Nursing home. I worked for her for three years.
