Meet Maria

Hello! My name is Maria! I am a 2nd year grad student at Tulane University. I am studying public health and childhood disability studies. I have a bachelors degree from UCLA. I am originally from the eastern shore of Maryland. I love New Orleans and intend on planting my "roots" here! I have over 8 years of babysitting/child care experience. I have taken care of children ranging from 1-month's-old to early teens (11-15). My last occupation was at a special needs school; I was a long-term substitute teacher. Students ranged from 3 to 21 years old. I assisted in all classes, but I was mainly a one-on-one caregiver for a 16 yr old with severe disabilities (intellectual, emotional, and motor skill impairment). I performed bathroom duties, food preparation, feeding, and teaching. I am down to earth, gregarious, responsible and respectful individual. I understand that raising children comes along with a timed (and also flexible!) schedule, so last minute changes are something I am used to

I have two children, one is 11 months old and the other is coming up on his 2nd birthday. We needed a part-time sitter to help with evenings that my husband would be out of town and I would be working late evenings. We also realized we needed to make time for ourselves for some date nights. We were nervous at first using Care.com, but we found Maria and we were SO happy we decided to hire her. She kept us updated throughout the evening, which definitely eased our minds and we were also impressed she was able to stick to their routine and did not seem to have any trouble handling them (they can definitely be a handful sometimes!) We definitely will hire Maria again. She was so kind, sweet, responsible, and most importantly, keeping our children safe and sound!
