I've had a lot of experience working with children with special needs including Down syndrome, ADHD, learning disabilities and autism. I have volunteered in an art class for children with special needs for the past six years and developed a great skill set from doing so. I interned at the Rebecca School, a school for children with autism in New York, NY. There I worked as a teacher's aide in a classroom of children ages 8-12. This year, I babysat for a family whose son had autism and was non-verbal. I'm extremely passionate about helping and developing one-on-one relationships with children with special needs.

I got to know Leah as her coworker for 2 years at a Home for Boys and Girls. I was able to see Leah interact with children on a daily basis and witnessed her incredible caring nature. We cared for 16 year old boys who have a history of trauma and resulting behavioral issues. Leah cared for up to 5 boys at a time on her own. She was confident, funny, and kind in her interactions with the boys, their parents, and her coworkers. I could tell that she continuously kept their best interests in mind. Leah helped the boys with their chores, cooked with them, tutored them with their homework, played sports with them, and talked to them about their daily lives and personal struggles. Leah has planned trips for them to museums and parks, as well. Leah successfully set limits with our boys to hold them accountable to appropriate behavior. She is also great at calming our boys down when they are upset or angry. I would absolutely recommend Leah as a babysitter for any age group.
