I worked as a nanny for a family with two adopted children, a 5-year-old boy (with undiagnosed ADHD) and 4-year-old girl. I worked with his parents as well as his teachers to try various approaches to helping him control his behavior, focus his attention, work productively in and outside of school, and learn at a level equal to his peers. During these months, we all worked to provide a safe, nurturing, caring environment for him and did our best to support him in the ways he needed which often required constant attention, supervision, and help in his education and his daily life. He was later diagnosed with ADHD. In the duration of the time I worked with this family, I had the pleasure of watching this young boy grow, learn, and work in ways I could have never imagined. He has inspired me in more ways than I can count and provided ever more justification to my goals of a career in education.
