My family adopted/brought in kids since I was 5 years old, most of them had special needs. When I was old enough I was their Personal Care Assistant (PCA) for five and a half years. The children/teens I worked with had diagnoses of: ADHD, ADD, SAD, EBD, RAD, LD, ODD, OCD, FASD, PTSD, bi-polar, mental illnesses, anxiety, and depression. I have also worked with a family that had a medically fragile child. My most recent job that I have is at a group home where there are several special needs individuals. I also have a degree in Early Childhood Special Education. I have been a Sunday School teacher, where I assisted a child that had autism and I have also had several practicums/student-teaching opportunities working with a range of children with varying needs, but the majority being Down syndrome and autism.
