About Kenya

I'd describe my personality as enthusiastic, compassionate, and jovial. My personality and skills form a great blend. My top three skills are communication, empathy, and creativity. Other notable skills include optimism, patience, emotional intelligence, knowledge of child development, organizational skills, and troubleshooting abilities. I can also make decent crepes and do silly voices when reading aloud. In my free time, I enjoy watercolor painting, scrapbooking and other paper crafts, practicing yoga, strength training, and visiting the Smithsonian museums. I earned my Master of Arts in Teaching (Grades K-6) from James Madison University (JMU). Although I am not in the classroom, I chose to pursue a career in the Federal Government, where I work on implementing child nutrition policies and regulations for a nationwide program. Despite being one of many furloughed civil servants, this role still allows me to make a positive impact on the youngest members of society.
