Chromosome 21 changed my life. I have a passion for working with children with special needs. I am searching for a position that will further enrich my experience, build relationships with the children, help to create a world in which people see their abilities rather than their disabilities, and to create the best future possible for these incredible children. I was inspired by my best friend. She is now 6 years old and has Down syndrome. Volunteering as her aide in the preschool class, we instantly bonded. I became her respite care provider. Building a relationship with her has shaped my character and my passion. My experience with her has created in my heart a seeking of individuality, acceptance, and inclusion. Because of her, a strong sense of social justice for those who society marginalizes has welled up within me. I believe it has always been a part of me, but Sierra has given me a passion and a voice to express it.
