I have been friends with a girl since I was in 5th grade. She also has Down Syndrome, her parents saw that we got along well and put her in all the same classes as me in school and we began hanging out outside of school also. To this day, 8 years later we still hang out and I babysit her regularly. She is the reason I am so passionate about these kids. They are not to be coddled but treated as a normal child and introduced to the things other kids do. I have a different approach to Special Education but it is one I have seen make a huge change in lives of those with disabilities.
