As a classroom teacher, I have worked with a large number of identified special-needs students. Most people think of this as a really stressful time in life, but I have found this time quite joyful. Students who have difficulty learning always present a challenge. I strive to do what I can to help the child reach his or her fullest potential. I do whatever it takes to help the student succeed in school. I work closely with the special education department and any other aides who might work with that child. I read the students I. E. P. to learn what modifications need to be made. I have talk with teachers and parents to learn what motivates each child. I would allow student choice in activities and use brain-based learning strategies that stretch the mind. Above all, I am enthusiastic in my encouragement. I focus on the students strengths and am supportive of their weaknesses. I let each student know that I believe in him or her. The experience is very rewarding.
