I recently moved to Baltimore from Northern California, and I'm currently teaching 10th and 11th grade English at a high school in the city. Other than teaching and mentoring kids in the classroom, I was a literacy leader and after-school program supervisor at an organization called Berkeley Youth Alternatives. My work there included facilitating reading groups, tutoring all subjects, and supervising after-school activities such as crafting, gardening, and cooking for children ages 5-12. As a teacher I'm not only passionate about teaching and mentoring; I understand the importance of creating a safe, nurturing environment, and I believe that a balance of hard work, fresh air, and fun is required for meaningful learning and growing to take place. Some of my other interests include hiking, yoga, and watching online movies!

Katie regularly babysat our two young daughters (5 & 7). She embodies so many characteristics of what a family would want in someone taking care of their children. Katie is responsible, she has excellent communication skills, she is amazing with children of all ages, and has a warm and caring personality that brightens your home. She's a very self-driven individual who carved her own academic path through UC Berkeley, where she also found time to participate and volunteer in several philanthropic organizations which served the underprivileged. In addition to Katie always being punctual, responsible, fun, active, creative, imaginative and artistic (amazing singing voice), she also has a heart of gold and is just an amazing person. For any family looking to hire Katie for their childcare needs, just know you are getting the highest quality individual both personally and professionally.
