While working at Sherwood Community Services I met a Down Syndrome woman named J. She lived with our family for 21 years and I cared for her as if she was family. She lived to be 70 years old, which is quite the feat for Down Syndrome! I am passionate about Down Syndrome adults, however I also have experience with many other mental disabilities. As J aged, we upgraded my family's home with a ramp to our front door, a stair-rider, a walk-in tub, and a hospital bed to fit her needs. Now that she has passed, I am looking for another mentally disabled adult or a senior to care for full-time in my home. I am open to a senior couple as well, and I am pet friendly. As I did with J, I catered to her needs both physically and personally. I took her to all her favorite thrift stores, doctor appointments, and Disneyland once a year.
