My introduction to care giving was in 2015 when I unexpectedly became my grandfather's primary caregiver. In order to keep up with his slow mental and physical decline and to keep him at home as he requested, I became a Certified Nursing Assistant. After he passed, I became employed in a medical dementia unit as a CNA. I demonstrated many skills and also established experience with many different types of dementia, illnesses. I not only provided care to my patients but companionship. I gained the trust of those in my care and I learned each individual's routines, which allowed me to identify potential signs of decline at the beginning. I am no longer certified, but I still have the passion to help others achieve the best quality of life possible. Currently I am in school for psychology, and through my coursework I have gained knowledge that allows me to not only address physical but mental concerns as well. I have my own transportation.
