Mental illness runs in my family. Perhaps going back two generations. I was a depressed teen with anxiety issues and Attention Deficit Disorder. I know first-hand how these teens feel and that you do not simply "grow out " of these issues. They are a life-long battle. Eating right, exercise and medications need to become a way of life to win this battle. My feelings of depression are luckily 30 years behind me now and I have been medicated for my anxiety and ADD for nearly 15 years now. I worked for a hospital in Dallas on the Children 's and Adolescent ward. I was only the Unit Secretary but I observed the teens being brought in by parents, becoming acclimated to the ward and others already there. Some teens were there because they had tried to hurt themselves and others just wanted to sleep 24/7. Both were very common. I also have two 16-year-old boys of my own so I also know what teens are into right now. I would like the opportunity to show your teen that others with mental illness go on to live long productive lives.
