I have always felt it would be a privilege to care for children with special needs. They deserve all of the attention that children with normal functioning capacities receive. I do not have experience, per se, in caring for children with special needs. I do love them and have patience with children, and compassion runs very deep within me. I have weekly opportunities to associate with someone who has special needs. On occasion, when something occurs that disturbs them, I am able to assist in helping to calm and comfort them. I also work as a captioner, a person who stenographically records the spoken word for the benefit of those who are deaf and hard-of-hearing. Since such people cannot hear, I stenographically record what is being said, which they can then read from a computer. In this way, they are able to benefit in the same way as hearing people. This is a very rewarding opportunity for me. I enjoy the satisfaction of knowing that I am helping someone else.
