I was born in Oak Park, Illinois. My wife and I have been married for 38 years, and have four children and eight grandchildren. We have lived in Woodridge for the last 29 years. My parents were missionaries in Italy and I spent 11 and a half years there. So I grew up bilingual. I majored in French at Houghton College in western New York state, and minored in Spanish. I taught French at Houghton College for three semesters shortly after graduating. In recent years I've picked up the Portuguese language and am a member of a Brazilian church, so I use my Portuguese regularly. I keep up my Italian by speaking it with our youngest son who still lives at home. So I would not have a problem working for someone who only speaks French, Italian, Spanish or Portuguese. Years ago, I helped care for an invalid who had MS. On occasion I stayed with him day and night for a couple of days when his wife needed to get away, so I got him up with a hydraulic lift, moved him around, brushed his teeth, prepared food and fed him, etc.
